FLO is thrilled to announce the deployment of three fast charging stations in Alberta, in partnership with ATCO, the province’s leading energy provider, Canadian Tire Corporation and Natural Resources Canada.
This project promises to drastically improve the charging infrastructure in the province, which currently boasts the fourth largest number of electric vehicles in the Canada.
The stations are currently being installed at Canadian Tire Gas+ locations in Calgary, Red Deer and Greater Edmonton area and will be operational early next year.
The selected locations are:
- Greater Edmonton: 169 Ordze Ave., Sherwood Park, AB T8A 2G4, Canada
- Red Deer: 5908 Gaetz Ave, Red Deer, AB T4N 4C3, Canada
- Calgary: 9940 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, AB T2J 3K9, Canada
Each location will be equipped with a fast charging station and a dual Level 2 charging station to accommodate all types of electric vehicles.
The sites are conveniently located close to Highway 2 exits and near amenities like rest areas, shops or restaurants, so drivers can grab a bite or do some shopping while they charge. The locations also ensure universal fast charging infrastructure is available every 150 km or so along the fastest route from Edmonton to Calgary.
This deployment is part of the FLO network’s expansion in Alberta, which kicked off last summer with the commissioning of a first fast charging station at Londonderry Mall, in Edmonton, in partnership with Simons.
Supporting EV adoption in Alberta
EV technology is improving constantly, but most vehicles presently on the market would not be able to make it from Edmonton to Calgary on a single charge.
The development of a charging network connecting these two major cities will surely be a strong catalyst for electric mobility, making short- and long-distance travel easier, while reducing range anxiety.
There are currently more than 1,000 battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles registered in Alberta.
FLO acknowledges the financial support of Natural Resources Canada for this project.
